Light at the end of the tunnel

  • Our first show garden was a conceptual garden called ‘Light at the end of the tunnel’ at RHS Hampton Court Palace flower show in 2012.

Inspired by Matthew’s experience of being injured in the bombing at London’s Edgware road station on 7th July 2005, its theme was of recovery and hope. The journey through the garden began with a shaded, confined tunnel-like space representing a period of trauma but as the visitor moved through the space along a widening path they were rewarded with more space, light, uplifting planting and a growing sense of hope.

Awarded a gold medal and ‘Best conceptual garden’ by the RHS.

“I think all of the conceptual gardens have done really well.  I think Matthew Childs’ is the best in show”. Monty Don
